I wanted to share this simple DIY natural hair dye because when I did my latest hair video my viewers kept asking what color I had on my hair. My hair was a light brown/reddish color and I wanted to share how I do it. This is a natural method that I have used in the past and I love the results. What I use is so simple and natural. It’s chemical-free, cruelty-free, and plant-based! And all you will need are veggies! So let’s begin with this DIY hair dye…

This post is all about DIY natural hair dye.

DIY Natural hair dye method for reddish hair…

To add red tints to my hair I use beets and carrots. This natural hair dye can boost the color of redheads. If you have blonde hair then beet juice will create more of a strawberry blonde shade. Depending on what shade you want, you can use these veggies separately or together. For a deeper red tone use extra beet juice. Carrot juice alone will produce a subtle reddish orange.

1. PROCESS – Get the DIY hair dye ready

The night before I wash my hair. When my hair is dry I apply a small amount of MOA Hair Oil (similar but also great). I got this as a gift from my sister for Christmas and ever since I love it! This oil helps to give shine and softness to your hair. If my hair is still wet I like applying MOA Spray Detangler which also is amazing. To me, both smell amazing but both smell different.

To begin I grab one beet and about two to three carrots. I use Breville Compact Juice Extractor to get the pure juice of these two vegetables. This will make about two cups of natural hair dye. In case you don’t have a juice extractor then you can always use a blender. I use Vitamix TurboBlend VS (similar but the newest model) which works amazingly because of the high-speed options. With the juice extractor, the consistency of the hair dye will be liquid, and with the blender, you will get vegetable fiber along with the hair dye. In case you want to get rid of the vegetable fiber you can use a nut/rice milk bag. This will help to squeeze the juice out as if you were using a juice extractor. I like storing my hair dye in Mason glass jars.

2. APPLY – Apply the DIY natural hair dye

I begin by detangling my hair with my favorite detangling hair brush. Then, I like this brush because it never breaks my hair, it can be used on wet or dry hair, and it’s also great for kids.

Also, I have dark brown hair so I apply about one cup of beet and carrot juice. After, I also add about 1 tbsp of organic coconut oil to condition my hair at the same time. Before you apply this natural hair dye just make sure to wear something to protect your skin and clothes from any stains. I apply this natural hair dye all over my hair and I put on a plastic cap so that the natural juice will penetrate more. This can be left on the hair for one hour to four hours or better yet, leave it on overnight and rinse your hair in the morning. I usually leave it on for an hour and then rinse my hair as I usually do. To seal the color use raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar as a spray.

3. FINISH – DIY Natural red hair color

After applying and rinsing, I dry my hair with my Elchim 3900 Hair Dryer. After one application I can already see the difference but the color will be more noticeable after a few more applications of this natural hair dye. It all depends on the shade that you’re going for. With this natural hair dye mixture, you can use it as often as you like to reach your desired color. I like repeating this process every few weeks.

That’s all for this simple natural hair dye tutorial. If you ever get to color your hair at home let me know how it goes! Will you try this or used a similar method? Let me know! Thanks for reading and until next time!
