I’m writing this as I feel kind of frustrated with Fiverr. I have several gigs up, including photo editing, video editing, translation, pet modeling, and more. I have been offering Fiverr gigs since August 2016.
I love photo, and video editing, Hence why I decided to offer those gigs. I get a few gigs every month, and it’s nice to have the extra income. Some months you will earn more than others, as it always fluctuates because it all depends how many gigs you get.
So far I’ve had a good experience with buyers, and you will notice I have good reviews with five stars. Some you won’t please no matter what you do, but it’s part of it.
What I like about Fiverr…
3 THINGS I LIKE ABOUT FIVERR
Offer What You Like
With Fiverr you get to offer what you like doing. I truly enjoy photo, and video editing, so this is what I chose to offer. I have multiple gigs up, but there are so many things you can do. I’ve seen people do art, create business logos, do voice overs, and so much more. You get to be creative, and at the same time get paid for it!
Offer Gig Extras
With gig extras you have the option of adding various add-ons if you like. I like adding add-ons to video editing, because it’s my most popular gig and it’s marked as ‘Best Seller’. This is the gig I do the most often, so I want to offer the most that I can. So not only you set your base price, but buyers have the option of adding extras if they want to. Some gig extras that I include are Extra fast delivery, Add Background Music, Overlay Text, and more.
You set your own prices for your Fiverr gigs. Most gigs start from $5, but with gig extras you potentially end up earning more. You get to choose if you want to go with your main Fiverr gig, or decide to add packages. For my Fiverr video editing gig I do offer three main packages. This is an optional feature but most sellers do decide to add it for more variety for the buyer.
The part that frustrates me…
3 THINGS I DON’T LIKE ABOUT FIVERR
Bad Customer Service
One time with a buyer we mutually decided to cancel on a gig. Somehow the buyer didn’t know how to cancel the order, so it was marked as late on my end. I tried contacting Fiverr customer service multiple times with no avail. There’s almost no way of getting a hold of them, and my ‘Delivered on Time’ percentage went down.
My tips, not your tips!
I had never received a tip before, until this past week! I was so happy thinking that I was going to earn a bit more than my regular Fiverr gig price. The Fiverr gig was for video editing: I had charged the buyer $10 for basic video editing, and because she was so happy with my work, she gave me a $10 tip! Somehow I thought it was MY tip. What Fiverr will do is combine your Fiverr gig price ($10), plus the tip ($10), and you only get 20%! Meaning, I only got $16 in total!
I think it’s already unfair that Fiverr gets 20% of your income. I know they provide the platform for you, and they need to make money too. But with all the users they have I think it would be fair if they take away $1 from each order, or maybe just the 10%. They could consider displaying adds on their website to earn money, without taking away from the income that sellers make. We are the ones providing the work for the buyer. But on top of that, to also take away from your tip?! I don’t think that’s ok!
What I’m going to do?
Either go by their rules, or leave Fiverr for good. To be honest I feel kind of disappointed that Fiverr takes away from your hard earned income, AND from your tips. I was almost at the verge of taking down all my gigs from Fiverr in an instant. I will thoroughly think about it, and make my decision some time soon…..
