Hello, it’s been a long time since I last posted the other series in Blogging Tips. Whenever I can up with an idea or remember something I come back to this list so that I don’t forget to write about it. These are things have helped me along my blogging experience and observe from other blogs as well. I hope you find some use to this and let’s begin….

Too many posts on your homepage. Sometimes I’ve come across blogs that have too many posts on their main page with a lot of photos and this makes the page load really slow. You want to make your main page load up fast for your viewers, like the saying goes, “The first impression is what counts.” This will create a pleasant experience for your viewers and if they like your page they will come back. In general I like to leave mine between 3 to 5 blog posts on my home page. To make the necessary adjustment go to Settings > Posts and comments. In the ‘Posts’ section you can type in as many posts you would like to display on your main page. Don’t forget to click on ‘Save settings’.

Top banner. You can add a nice banner on the homepage of your blog. To me it makes it more fun and it gives your visitors a general idea what your blog is about. For instance my blog name is LynSire so I made that in black and big font to make it stand out. Then as a subheading I added ‘Beauty • Hauls • Outfits’. This gives my viewers a brief glimpse of what to expect from my blog. To personalize your title you can either use Photoshop, PicMonkey, and I recently discovered Pixlr. You can use any of these editors to personalize your banner to your liking and add it to your blog. Once your have your banner ready go to: Layout > in the ‘header’ section click ‘edit’. Here you will see the section ‘Image’ and you browse for the image you will upload and in ‘Placement’ I selected ‘Instead of title and description’ So that only my banner is displayed. You can play around with the settings to see which one you like best.

Change labels to categories. Are you interested in adding a Categories section to your blog? Let’s say you want to add your own categories that say: Beauty, Food, Lifestyle, and Outfits. There’s an easy way around this. There’s no gadget to add categories but with the Labels gadget you can. In the Layout section of Blogger click on ‘Add a Gadget’. Select the + sign beside Labels. In the title you can type in anything you like so I will put Categories. This is the important part, instead of leaving the default selection ‘All labels’ you will select ‘Selected Labels’. Click ‘edit’ and from here you can select as many labels as you like…

Giveaways. Want to give back to your viewers? Host a giveaway!! This is a great way to interact with them and thank them for supporting you! This is also a great way to gain new subscribers. Depending what you blog is about you want to give back something your viewers will like. For instance if your blog is about fashion you can giveaway a pair of heels or a beautiful purse. If your blog is about beauty then maybe host a giveaway of makeup items. I get so much satisfaction from giving away to others. To run a giveaway you can use Gleam or Rafflecopter and it makes the whole process a breeze. With these sites it makes it super easy to manage any giveaway.

‘Undo’ when everything gets erased. Has it ever happened to you that your writing a long blog post and suddenly everything disappears?! Everything gets erased and you think everything is gone but don’t worry, there’s a quick way to get everything back. You will basically Undo like if you were using Word with a keyboard shortcut. To Undo press on your keyboard Ctrl + Z and in case you need to Redo use Ctrl + Y. That’s it! Very quick and simple! So don’t panic 😉

So that’s it for this 5 blogging tips! I hope you have enjoyed these tips and remember you can find more blogging tips in Part 1 and 2!

Great tips! I cannot even begin to tell you how many times I have to Ctrl Z or Ctrl Y when I'm typing haha I'm always deleting things by mistake! And it's a pet peeve of mine to see SO many posts on a single page. Or even the endless scroll! Since my posts get lengthy, I either have it set to show 3-5 at a time or I make it so that only a snippet of it is shown and you have to click the post to open up the full version. When I do this, I believe I have it set to 7 or so. It makes your pages seem much less crowded and overwhelming.
