All About my Trip to Guatemala Being Vegan
As I’m writing this I’m currently sitting down in Starbucks. Today I tried for the first time their Matcha Green Tea Latte with almond milk, 1 packet of sugar in the raw, and sprinkled with vanilla powder. I also got the sprouted grain vegan bagel, with avocado spread. So good!
So for those of you who don’t know my mom is from Guatemala, and my dad is from Honduras. They met here in the US, and I was born and raised in Miami, FL.
I have been going to Guatemala since I was little. I think I was four the first time I visited, and my mom was pregnant with my sister Cindy. This was my first time out of the country, and I remember thinking how different everything looked. Different culture, different weather, different everything.
I was going back after I hadn’t visited for more than 10 years. To be exact I hadn’t gone back like in 11 or 12 years.
This time it was my aunt that flew from LA, my mom, my daughter, and I for two weeks. It was also going to be my little sister’s 15th birthday party, and taking advantage of the trip also celebrate my daughter’s 9th birthday!
ANTIGUA
Antigua is the old city of Guatemala. Back in the day this used to be Guatemala’s capital city. Something unique that I love about Antigua is that the streets are cobbled, there are colonial houses, and wonderful ruins. And finding vegan food is easy, making it a big plus!
We went around Antigua exploring this beautiful place, and we visited a couple of he ruins. I love entering these places that are so old. It makes me feel like I’m Lara Croft from Tomb Raider haha!
Then it was time to eat I used my HappyCow app to find nearby vegan places. I was able to find a placed called Y Tu Piña También, but the food was ok. I got their veggie sandwich, but their smoothie was incredible. They also offer vegan desserts.
Then we headed back to Villa Nueva where we were staying.

Fun fact: I had drank all the coconut water but I was actually carrying around it empty just to get photos with it haha! |
I was so excited to be going to Atitlán because even though I have been to Guatemala so many times before, this was my first time here.
Atitlán is another place full of tourists from the US, and Europe.
Once you arrive to Atitlán you can get on a boat and visit different places located around the lake. We only went for one day, but if you really want to check it out I recommend staying there for a few days to really see everything that it has to offer. This area also has 5-star hotels, or you can find something on Airbnb.
Little Lyn and I got on the boat ride for half an hour, and we stayed here to grab lunch. We were walking down one of the main streets reading through the menus outside. A few caught my attention because they offered tofu, and tempeh options. I finally stopped at one of the cafes, and I got the tofu fajita (food photo down below).
Without exaggerating I’d say it’s the best food I’ve had this year! I still dream about eating this over and over again. It was so delicious, and you could taste the exotic and fresh flavors. This meal was only 16Q, and the french fries were 20Q. This comes up to be around $5 US money.

My Little Lyn |
Little Lyn was going to turn 9 in a few weeks, so I thought why not take advantage of the trip and celebrate it here. She chose Mario theme so she got a Mario cake, a Mario piñata, and a Yoshi piñata.
This was her first time hitting a piñata, so that made it really special. It was a small party with neighbors from the block. For her birthday celebration video watch it here.

All About my Trip to Guatemala Being Vegan video:
Clothes style for my Guatemala trip
I’ve noticed lately I really love simple outfits. Clothes that make you look put together without a lot of work. Like using rompers, off shoulder tops, jumpsuits, and I think you get the idea. The following options are really similar to what I wore in Guatemala…
For most of my videos and photos I prefer using my Canon 70D Camera, but because I didn’t want to risk anything happening to this big camera instead I took my smaller camera. All these photos were taken using my Canon G7 X Mark II and basic editing in Lightroom.
Make sure to follow me on Instagram @LynSire for more of my Guatemala travel photos. See you there!
Until next time!
