Vegan Bread Recipe Books

Bread & Butter: Gluten-Free Vegan Recipes to Fill Your Bread Basket: A Baking Book

“For two decades, a gluten sensitivity forced Erin McKenna to ignore the bread basket that accompanies dinner at her favorite restaurants. Brunch was even worse: flaky croissants, biscuits, bagels . . . As an act of self-preservation, she tried to pretend they didn’t exist. After pioneering vegan and gluten-free dessert baking at her beloved bicoastal bakery, Erin set about righting this wrong, tackling the beautiful treats in those forbidden bread baskets. The result is all the savory bread a gluten-free vegan guy or gal could want and more, including English Muffins, Cinnamon Raisin Bread, Sweet Potato Sage Rolls, Pizza Dough, Corn Tortillas, Puff Pastry Dough, Pretzels, Scallion Pancakes, even a simple and perfect Sandwich Bread. And since you can’t say “bread” without saying “butter,” she created a rich and creamy vegan butter unlike anything else, too. The world’s bread basket just got a whole lot fuller.”

I hate cakey gluten bread and the ones I’ve made from recipes in this book were really good. But make sure you get the corrections from the authors blog. Also, I did not follow the cooking times with a lot of the recipes. With long baking times some of the loaves turned out too hard. I would suggest getting a thermometer and remember that a loaf that reaches 205 to 210 degrees is baked. You can actually reduce the baking times by half in most of the recipes. – Amazon Review

As more people are becoming aware of their dietary restrictions, Emily’s exquisite cakes provide a solution that leaves everyone happy while dismissing the idea that vegan and gluten-free desserts are by nature unattractive. Pure Artistry includes recipes for staple cakes (like Mexican Chocolate, Lemon-Poppy, and Classic Red Velvet) plus icings and fondant, how-tos on cake construction, and information on necessary ingredients and tools. The truly extraordinary feature of the book is the gorgeous cake designs, which are organized by mood—classical, classical whimsy, modern, and modern whimsy. Flying Apron’s Gluten-Free & Vegan Baking Book

“Over the last decade, a vegan diet has become a more mainstream choice; food allergies have been increasing at alarming rates; and celiac disease is on everyone’s radar. When owner Jennifer Katzinger opened The Flying Apron Bakery in 2002, she wanted to accommodate more people, as well as use healthier ingredients so she eliminated gluten, dairy, egg, soy, and wheat. The mouthwatering result? Cakes and muffins with a tender crumb, cookies with a chewy bite, frosting that’s light yet satisfyingly sweet, and pastry that flakes at the touch of a fork. In Flying Apron’s Gluten-Free and Vegan Baking Book, Katzinger shares the delicious secrets of her sweet and savory recipes. Bake yummy pastries like Blueberry Cinnamon Scones and Lemon Poppy Seed muffins, or whip up a batch of Chocolate Chip Cookies, or Cardamom Spice Cupcakes. In more than 80 recipes, Katzinger offers satisfying treats, whether you’re transitioning to a vegan or gluten-free diet, or simply wanting to indulge a sweet tooth using healthier ingredients.”

This is a good gluten free cookbook that hardly uses starches like tapioca or potato flour. Also, only a few of the bread recipes call for xanthan gum. I have read too much controversial information regarding the use of xanthan gum and personally, it seems to upset our families stomachs. I like that the author uses mainly brown rice flour and chickpea flour for her recipes which make them nutritionally superior to most other gluten free cookbooks I have seen. There is quite a bit of oil called for in most recipes, but you must also factor in the very large quantity of flour used per recipe. Overall, very pleased to have a variety of healthier, vegan, gluten free recipes. And those of you with honey comments, why can’t you substitute another liquid sweetener, rather go crazy with the negative comments? – Amazon Review

OMG! These recipes are amazing. Almost too good! I gave up sugar in October 2019 and know from experience if you don’t have something to replace it with, you’re doomed to fail. There’s a lot of maple syrup (pure – no sugar added) used in these recipes. Maple syrup doesn’t trigger me like sugar does, so it works for me. We have not yet had a recipe we don’t love. I will suggest if you make the “oreo” cookies, make them a LOT smaller than she suggests. She says her recipe makes 6 cookies. I’ve used the same recipe and made 24 (which ended up being 2 or 3 bites) and that’s just about perfect for us! The Hazelnut No Shares – to die for. We made the Cookies and Cream “cheesecake” for Father’s Day. Delicous. Highly, highly recommend! – Amazon Review

I bought this for my daughter’s 13th birthday that is coming up. We are vegans and have major sweet tooths, so this book is perfect. As I tell people all the time, being vegan is not a sacrifice, it’s a joy and made even more joyous when it’s so easy to whip up plant based, yummy treats such as the ones in this book! The recipes are easier than I thought and I can’t wait to try them out. Since my daughter feels that ice cream is a food group, I’m thinking she’ll love it 😉 – Amazon Review

The Vegan Scoop: 150 Recipes for Dairy-Free Ice Cream that Tastes Better Than the “Real” Thing

“Developed by vegan hipster Wheeler del Torro of Wheeler’s Frozen Desserts, these “faux” creams feature 100 percent vegan-certified ingredients, making them suitable for both vegans and those with lactose intolerance and other dairy aversions. And with each serving containing approximately 80 calories—nearly 100 calories fewer than a serving of traditional ice cream—you can indulge with peace of mind (and keep your trim waistline!).”

I have made ice cream from this book for over a year. My ice cream is better than any vegan store bought ice cream. However, I learned early on that you must make your own creamer because store bought vegan creamers are flavored which will change your ice cream. I cup raw almonds (soaked overnight) blended with 2 cups water, then drained, is a perfect creamer. This book is fantastic. – Amazon Review

Vegan à la Mode: More Than 100 Frozen Treats Made from Almond, Coconut, and Other Dairy-Free Milks

Recreate irresistible flavors, from classic ice cream parlor treats to innovative combinations such as peanut butter bombshell, birthday cake, Turkish coffee, pistachio praline, blueberry–balsamic, rose petal, chocolate-cabernet, and mango colada. I made an awesome tasting ice cream using the simple recipes in this book. I made the easiest one in the book which included jam. I added pecans through the window and cocoa nibs for my own treat and it was delicious. The best recipes with maple syrup and fruit will add lots of flavor and be healthy. – Amazon Review

I wasn’t sure how vegan ice cream would taste but after buying a machine and making my first batch of chocolate ice cream I’m hooked. It was so unbelievably delicious, we couldn’t stop eating it! You would never know there was no dairy in it. The only thing I did notice was if you have leftover ice cream that you need to store in your freeze, it gets pretty hard and you’ll need to let it defrost for a few before serving. I would say that it’s best to eat it when it’s just made. Love it!!! – Amazon Review

I have several cookbooks that use primarily healthy and natural ingredients. This cookbook is by far the best. Every recipe tastes great and I feel great after eating these desserts — no sugar overload feeling. I have gradually bought all the necessary ingredients (and the author provides great substitution ideas in the introduction) and I am working my way through the recipes. My only regret is that it is unlikely I will use the other cookbooks I bought! I hope this author writes more cookbooks. – Amazon Review

Every recipe I’ve tried from this book has been a success, and loved by omnis as well as fellow vegans. There are recipes for crusts, sauces and other accompaniments, cream pies, frozen pies, nut pies, fruit pies, miscellaneous pies, and savory pies. Favorites have been the speculoos pumpkin pie, which makes a classic holiday dessert extra special, and the Thanksgiving quiche, which combines turkey, potatoes, and a medley of vegetables into a tasty breakfast or brunch dish. – Amazon Review

I seriously LOVE this cookbook!!! Isa Chandra Moskowitz is a stone cold pie genius. I’ve made about half a dozen pies in this book, and all of them have turned out well. These pies are easy to make, and the only issue that I’ve had is that my family eats them too quickly. So far the strawberry rhubarb crumble and maple-kissed blueberry pies have been my two favorites. I’m sure that I’ll have others when the holiday season approaches. – Amazon Review
